Account and data
Request account deletion
You can do this without opening or reinstalling OurCat.
Or write to mycatapps@gmail.com with the subject “OurCat account deletion request”.
Verify that the account is yours
Send the request from the email address registered with OurCat. We confirm ownership through a reply and confirmation from that address. If you cannot access it, explain that to support so that a suitable verification route can be agreed.
Do not send passwords, sign-in codes, invitation codes or private care information.
What happens to the information
After verification and the applicable shared-care step, your account records, sign-in identity and personal identity links are removed or pseudonymised. Cats and households that only you own, and their uploads, can be removed where the supported deletion conditions are met.
If you are a co-parent, the shared cat information and care history that the remaining authorised carers need can stay, with your personal identity links cleaned.
Shared owners
If you own a cat that a co-parent also cares for, the request can enter a server-controlled 14-day survival window. Shared household information is kept during that window, and you can reclaim your account. Ownership is not transferred automatically. If the request expires, shared ownership needs to be resolved before a new request is submitted. We will explain the steps needed; contact support if you cannot use the app.
Provider records and timing
The 14-day window is not a deadline for removing every copy:
- deleted database data may remain in recovery copies for up to 7 days;
- deleted photos can be recovered by the storage provider for up to 7 days;
- technical logs are kept for 30 days, and required audit logs for 400 days, where they exist;
- Firebase Authentication completes removal of a deleted sign-in identity, including from its backups, within 180 days.
Deleting your account does not delete a Firebase installation identifier on your phone. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data replaces it. A CSV file you have already exported and shared is controlled by whoever received it.
We will verify and process requests without unnecessary delay, and explain any applicable shared-care step or required retention exception.
